Dr A. Jill Butler was born and raised in Porter County. She did her undergraduate work at Purdue University (Westville and Calumet campuses) and received her veterinary degree in England. She graduated with honors from the University of Liverpool Faculty of Veterinary Science in 1998.
After graduation, Dr. Butler worked in a mixed practice in rural England (think James Herriott) for two years before returning to Northwest Indiana. Since returning to the United States, she has been on staff at Calumet Emergency Veterinary Clinic , and has worked part-time at several local hospitals before purchasing Valparaiso Animal Hospital.
Dr. Butler's interests include critical care, pain control, surgery, and geriatric medicine. She is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society, and the Calumet Area Veterinary Medical Association.
Dr. Butler lives in Chesterton with her husband Jim, and their two children (who you might meet during your visit). They share their lives with 3 dogs, 15 cats, a mule, a pony, several pigs, chickens, and thousands of honeybees. Dr. Butler enjoys reading, cooking, attending auctions, and "green living"....and she makes a mighty mean apple pie!
